Just wanted to let everyone know what happened. A Cogento router went down, in California. They supposedly flew in a replacement, but lacked redundancy. I apologize for the inconvienience. I was under the impression there was a redundant backup bandwidth provider in the facility my server is located in.
Apparently a few years ago when my datacenter was bought by a new company they changed the SLA from redundant to resiliant bandwidth. Cogento is a rather large and pretty good provider, but nothing is perfect, and not having redundancy, quite frankly, is not cool. This outage affected a small pile of datacenters all over California. Most others simply switched to their redundant systems and waited it out, while mine went fairly dark.
For those of you with UB for years you will remember the move from the East Coast to the West Coast. I am considering another move, so far my top choice is Kansas. I have not finished researching things yet, and have no firm plans until my research is done, and then tested.
Just wanted to keep the community in the loop.
