Since someone resurrected the thread might as well point out that 3 out of the 4 teams left in Europe League are Spanish "cannon fodder". That's what "stature" means btw, how you relate to other clubs playing football not just the ones in your league which, through no fault of your own, may happen to be shit. The gap in the SPL is there because the other teams are incredibly bad, while the gap in the Spanish league exists because the top 2 are incredibly good.

I think Man Utd and Man City really tried hard to stay in the Europa League due to how good it is.

Obviously motivation in CL > motivation EL, but considering that Utd got eliminated from CL after losing to Basel, saying they were eliminated by Bilbao just because they didn't care......meh!

There's a good chance of CL and EL finals having only spanish teams. Since 2007, England is 1st in UEFA Ranking and they might lose it this season to Spain. So can't really say that spanish league is only Barça and Real because the other teams are bad/average, like it happens in SPL. Have to agree with staniol on this one.

Whilst I can understand what Platini is hoping to achieve by scrapping the EL (As it is still seen as the greatly inferior competition) I'm not sure it's a good idea. That would mean there is only one euro cup up for grabs.. so basically 3/4 teams could claim the only euro title year on year? Don't like it.
