Ever noticed those awesome passes some ball carriers are able to pull every now and then that will result in a goal? Do you want them to happen more often in your team? Then read this! If you don't know this yet, your team will score more one or two goals per game!
Ball Carrier
Yeah well, there's nothing much I can say about how to do the pass.. A good ball carrier will need to have an eye open for every possible passes! Obviously there is some skill involved with the pass and timing must be correct but you'll get that naturally!
The hardest thing to get is the ability to see other players getting open.. I'd say the best way to get good at it is by playing a lot of mini! but I guess you'll still get it after some months of hock..
Some tips:
Always have a plan B! ~ Yeah, if you see they are getting open, there's a huge chance your defender saw it too, and will block your pass! be ready to control the ball and/or pass to your other teammate! I've seen newer players noticing an opening, and on the moment they were going to pass, the defender got in the way.. He wasn't expecting the passline to close, and he lost the ball..
Don't tell the defenders what you're going to do! ~ don't move in the direction you want to pass! move in the direction you want them to think you wanna pass! and then pass sideways!
Don't pass the ball as soon as you can! ~ This seems to go against what top players say, but its not! If you see a pass, hold your ball two more seconds so your teammate have time to start moving! but don't get me wrong.. if there's no ZOMGAWESOME1 pass, pass it right away..
Getting open!
Now, the important part of through passes is getting open.. Sounds easy but there are times that the ball carrier had the pass line, but you simply didn't see it or didn't bother running for it..
The player who will recieve the pass must start moving before the pass is made! like in soccer for example!(but hey, now you don't have to worry about offsides!)
If you boost past your defender/are able to block him so you'll be in the middle zone alone, even the less skilled ball carrier will see that pass!
With this said, there's not much more I can do other than show you some game situations and how you should get open behind your defender:
In a normal attack sometimes we come to this:
This first one is really basic and may seem stupid that someone would move the wrong way, but in game, it will be much faster and some newer players will think "damn, the game is on the other side of the map! ON MY WAAAY!!!!!1" and will fail to see there's a goal if they'd just move to their goal!
Believe it or not, this situation will come up atleast once per game (well, in most games..) and that'd be an extra goal to your team if you went to the right place!
The ball carrier went to the middle:
Some of you will follow him even if you could block your defender! don't do this! it's normal to get behind your defender sometimes, take advantage of that! block him and you'll have a 2v3 situation that will most likely result in a goal!
(remember.. it's not wrong to go after the ball carrier in SOME situations, but if you can block your defender like this, do so!)
The ball carrier wants to pass to the other side!
If you can trick your defender, it will be a goal! if he's facing left and you think the ball carrier will be able to pass it, boost in their backs! the worst that can happen is your ball carrier will need to control the ball for 2 seconds..
Don't try this always! you will need to judge if it's a good time.. if a defender (yours or the one who's defending the ball carrier) is expecting it, it won't work!
and so on...
There are tons of situations! but you get the idea..
Remember, if your defender is completly closing your passline, you can ALWAYS go behind him and block him in a wall or square.. That's the beauty of hock..
